RUSSIAN REACTORS TO COME ON LINE.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 53
On the same day that a research reactor in the town of Dmitrovgrad was shut down following its second accident in less than two months, a Russian Atomic Energy Ministry official announced that Moscow planned to bring three new nuclear reactors on line over the next two years. Much of the funding for the projects is to come from the sale of nuclear equipment and technology, he said March 15. The pace of nuclear construction in Russia has slowed since the 1986 Chernobyl accident, but Russia’s atomic energy minister recently declared Russian reactors to be among the safest in the world.
