SAKHAROV CENTER BROADENS MANDATE.

Publication: North Caucasus Weekly Volume: 3 Issue: 34

At the Andrei Sakharov Center in Moscow on November 6, a meeting was held of the Public Committee to Investigate the Circumstances of the Explosions of the Apartment Buildings in Moscow and Volgodonsk and the Ryazan Exercises [of 1999]. Among those in attendance were Duma deputies Sergei Kovalev and Sergei Yushenkov, lawyer Boris Zolotukhin, writer Aleksandr Tkachenko, journalist Otto Latsis and human rights defender Valery Borshchev. The committee decided to “broaden its mandate” and include the Moscow events of October 23-26, 2002–and especially the actions of the Russian special services during that period–as a new subject of inquiry (Grani.ru, November 6).
