SHEVARDNADZE ANGRY AT MOSCOW’S DIRECT TIES WITH ABKHAZIA.

Georgianpresident Eduard Shevardnadze said July 9 that Moscow´s recentoffer of 10 billion rubles as a first installment in disasterrelief to Abkhazia may be used by the latter for military purposes,Russian radio reported. The Georgian leader said that he woulddemand explanations from Moscow for this action which bypassedTbilisi and "totally contradicted" bilateral agreementsas well as CIS commitments prohibiting aid to separatist movementsor regimes. While reiterating that Georgia can not solve the Abkhazproblem without Russia´s participation, Shevardnadze warnedMoscow that it is damaging its relations with Georgia.
