TAJIK GOVERNMENT AND OPPOSITION FORCES JOINTLY FIGHT THE SODIROVS.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 61
Dushanbe security troops and an opposition detachment under field commander Mullo Abdullo have in recent days launched a joint "final" operation against the renegade group of Rizvon Sodirov in the high-altitude Red Ridge, 60 to 80 kilometers east of Dushanbe. As of yesterday, some 20 Sodirov fighters were reported to have been killed, along with three each from the government and the opposition forces. Sodirov’s brother Fathuddin was critically injured. The other Sodirov brother, Bahrom, was captured last week with part of his force, which had been forced to separate from Rizvon’s. Dushanbe had earlier unleashed the Sodirovs against the opposition’s forces, but changed tack following the recent progress in negotiations with opposition leaders.
