TAJIK OPPOSITION READIES MAJOR ATTACKS.

The commander ofRussian border guards in Tajikistan said he had "radio intercepts"showing that the Tajik opposition was preparing to launch attackson government forces, Russian radio reported August 2. Lt. Gen.Pavel Tarasenko said that some of the rebels planned to crossinto Tajikistan from Afghanistan, and that to prevent this hismen were building additional fortifications. Meanwhile, bothTajik and Russian officials continued to decry the assassinationof Tajik deputy Ainulo Nimatov, Ostankino television reportedAugust 2. The station said that the oppositions’ killing of thedeputy left Tajikistan looking like Budennovsk.
