TAJIK RESISTANCE CAPTURES GOVERNMENT TROOPS.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 1 Issue: 114

According to official military sources in Dushanbe, 48 government soldiers were taken prisoner by the resistance in an engagement in the Pamir foothills October 14. The resistance unit of commander Mirzo Khudji was credited with the capture. The official source did not rule out "betrayal" by the government soldiers, apparently meaning defection to the resistance. One day before the event, the commander of Russian and nominally CIS peacekeeping troops in Tajikistan, Col. General Valentin Bobryshev, had warned that a 250-strong resistance detachment had succeeded in moving inside Tajikistan from the Vankhsh border area. (23)
