Among those voting to elect Communist Gennady Seleznev speaker of the Duma was the distinguished representative from Karachaevo-Cherkessk, Boris Berezovsky. Berezovsky for years has called for banning the Communist Party entirely. Last March, he said the party promotes a “fascist ideology” and “has no right to exist in Russia.” But that was in the bad old days, during the government of Yevgeny Primakov, when federal prosecutors had issued a warrant for Berezovsky’s arrest. As a parliamentarian he is now immune from prosecution. That changes a man’s attitude. Live and let live.
