Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 61
The U.S. State Department yesterday expelled the first secretary of the Belarusan embassy in Washington, Uladzimir Hramyka, on a 24-hour notice. The move came in retaliation for the March 24 expulsion of Serge Alexandrov, first secretary of the U.S. embassy in Minsk. Also yesterday, the Minsk regime recalled its new ambassador to the U.S., Valery Tsyapkalo, who was en route to Washington. Minsk’s action was a response to the March 25 recall of U.S. ambassador Kenneth Yalowitz from Belarus. (Western agencies, March 26-27)
