UKRAINIAN-ROMANIAN TALKS COLLAPSE.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 1 Issue: 28
Talks between Kiev and Bucharest broke down this week over border questions, Kiev radio reported June 7. The Romanian side has demanded that Kiev join in denouncing the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. Although Bucharest has said that its request on this point does not represent a challenge to existing borders, Kiev has been reluctant to denounce the 1939 accords that transferred portions of Romania to Ukraine. On June 6, Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma canceled plans to visit Bucharest later this month. His office said that Kuchma’s decision was not related to problems with the talks.
