Building a Strong Informatized Strategic Missile Force: An Overview of the Second Artillery Force with a Focus on Training in 2014

This report analyzes the training and personnel recruitment of the People’s Liberation Army Second Artillery Force (PLASAF), China’s main strategic deterrent force. While there has been a considerable amount of research on Second Artillery’s strategy, missions, equipment, and order of battle, two areas that have not received as much attention are its training and personnel. Drawing on authoritative Chinese-language resources that address Second Artillery training guidance, training events, and joint exercises, this report provides a review of training for the PLASAF during 2014.
