LUZHKOV PROFESSES LOYALTY TO YELTSIN BUT DETESTS KORZHAKOV.

Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov told Argumenty i fakty (no. 32)that what Russia really needs is the Yeltsin of 1986. Luzhkovsoftened this remark by saying that Yeltsin is still a leadertoday and that he remains loyal to the president. At the sametime, Luzhkov confessed to "hating" presidential securityservice chief Aleksandr Korzhakov for "being involved inKremlin intrigues." Admitting that Moscow had become Russia’scriminal capital, Luzhkov blamed this on the ineptitude of lawenforcement agencies. He also asked the U.S. to apologize to singerIosif Kobzon for having refused him an entrance visa on the groundthat Kobzon was engaged in illegal business activities.
