Soumya Awasthi

Soumya Awasthi is a member of the expert group at the Centre on Armed Groups, Geneva. Her research interests include counter-terrorism, de-radicalization, South Asian strategic studies, Afghanistan, and India’s defense and strategic policy. She is particularly interested in the Deoband School of Islam in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Her Doctorate is from Jawaharlal Nehru University on the subject “Role of Religious Discourse in Regional and Global Geopolitics: Case Study of Deoband Philosophy in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.” She has recently co-authored a book titled A Compendium on Terrorist Group (2022). Her other two books include India’s Nuclear Titans (2023), Tracing Journey of India’s Defence Budget and its Future: An Analysis (2015).
