COAL MINERS STRIKE IN VORKUTA.

About 79 coal miners held an underground protest September 27 in a mine in Vorkuta, in Russia’s far north. The strike was called to protest government plans to close unprofitable mines. Itar-Tass quoted workers’ representatives as saying that workers at the Promyshlennaya mine would stay underground until a government official visited them to hear their grievances. The miners have not been paid since July.
