FAR NORTH WORKERS THREATEN TO JOIN STRIKE.

Workers in all the enterprises in Vorkuta, in Russia’s Far Northern Komi Republic , will join the nationwide miners’ strike called for October 1. (Interfax, September 19) The miners are demanding unpaid wages dating back to May and workers in other vital services have promised to bring the entire city to a halt. Announcement of the strike in the Far North comes as striking power workers in the Far East’s Primorsky krai have reduced energy supplies in cities on the Pacific coast to below twelve hours per day.
