GEORGIAN MONUMENT BLOWN UP IN SOUTH OSSETIA.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 145

The museum dedicated to the well-known Georgian writer, Prince Ivane Machabeli, was blown up on July 23 in Tamarasheni, South Ossetia. Local anti-Georgian separatists are suspected. The museum was located in a country house of the Machabeli family, which had once owned much of the present South Ossetia. Georgians continue referring to the region as Samachablo, or Machabeli estate. (Russian agencies, July 24)
