TAJIK RESISTANCE OPERATIONS WORRY RUSSIAN COMMAND.

Tajikresistance units have become more active in the last several daysthroughout the country much to the worry of Russian forces there,Russian radio reported August 30. The commander of Russian peacekeepingtroops, Col. Gen. Valentin Bobryshev, said that the Tajik "internalunderground" had concentrated some 2,500 fighters in Garmin order to "keep the Tajik government tense" and softenit up in the runup to the upcoming fifth round of inter- Tajiknegotiations. Near the Afghan border, the Tajik government hasbeen forced to withdraw several units following an ultimatum fromthe local resistance commander, Utro Rossii reported in its August24-30 issue.
